No Compromise Loudspeaker Choices With Lower Cost Per Seat.
Note- Prices given were approximate prices of average "street prices" of FlatPanel and Competitive products. The main point is the cost comparison (per seat,) not the final full cost of the solution.
Prior to the introduction of the DML500, loudspeaker product selection would usually begin with prioritizing features, such as aesthetics, coverage, clarity, stereo vs. mono - and these features would drive product selection. For example, there are loudspeaker products on the market that are designed for speech clarity in reverberant spaces, that often do not excel at reproducing live music. Others are focused on clarity and accuracy, but do not work well in anything other than "near field" listening spaces such as recording studios or extremely well treated rooms.
FlatPanel DML products are a rare loudspeaker solution that can be approached
from either cost, quality, or even architectural feature categories, without compromising other important characteristics. Unlike competing products in the marketplace, prioritizing on one characteristic does not result in a compromise of other features, In other words, with DML500 you can make archi
tectural decisions without compromising sonic performance. Need better coverage? Choose FlatPanel's 165 degrees of coverage without sacrificing clarity.
Through this analysis, we have found FlatPanel DMLs to be an incredible value in both small and large spaces. By factoring in what it would cost to achieve similar results from a traditional loudspeaker system (such as the cost of acoustic treatment, advanced tuning, etc) we find the DML500 fares very well. The larger the venue, the more the savings per seat.
Make the room the stereo sweet spot
Another benefit to FlatPanel that is simply a byproduct of choosing the product is the ability easily provide full-room stereo. There is a significant difference between a system that is "wired" in stereo L/R, vs. a system that delivers stereo to all seating positions. A continuous stereo venue is one in which each seat is covered by a left and a right channel of audio content. Many traditional point-source systems are often wired with a stereo signal path, but not with full stereo coverage for all seats. In an attempt to overcome issues with boundary interaction and coverage overlap, point-source installations are often limited to the left loudspeaker covering just the left seating area, and so on.
With the DML500, each loudspeaker can be used to cover more of the seating area. Due to the wide 165 degree conical pattern, and the uncorrelated sound waves emanating from the DML, coverage can overlap without being destructive. The result is full venue stereo coverage without adding additional loudspeakers. If true stereo coverage is a requirement for your venue, you may find the cost to deliver the full stereo image to each listener is cost prohibitive using point-source loudspeakers— often doubling the amount of loudspeakers required! By simply choosing FlatPanel, stereo coverage is often achieved as a byproduct of choosing the brand. FlatPanel loudspeakers are also found to work very well in immersive audio and surround-sound applications for the same reasons - every seat can be much more easily be covered.
Please note that these numbers are estimates only - and that no two rooms are the same, nor are the requirements the same for different venues, all of which affects cost. The numbers presented here are not intended to be any type of guarantee of per-seat cost for a given venue. Instead they are presented to allow you to see the cost savings between using FlatPanel, and using traditional loudspeakers. This study is only considering a couple of parameters, such as cost and coverage - but a FlatPanel solution will include many more benefits than we list here, with very few compromises. Also note that the pricing in this document is for loudspeakers, amplifiers, & subwoofers only, and does not represent the overall cost of the project.
